Matthew Brown
Matthew Brown Racing, Training Facility - Cranbourne, Victoria.
Matthew left school to become a concreter, he was approached by the Richard Laming stable when he concreted their place. They asked him if he wanted some extra work they would be willing to give it to him. Matthew worked with the Laming’s for four-and-a-half years, then went to Tasmania and worked with Scott and David Brunton for a little while. Matthew then came home and worked for Robbie Griffiths and Nikki Burke for 2 years in Cranbourne. After this he then went to Jason Warren’s, Marcus Fahler’s and Shane Nichol’s stables over in Mornington. During his racing “apprenticeship”, Brown also took out his picnic jockey’s licence and continues to ride track work to this day.
Mathew trains around 28 horses and his business is classed as a boutique style training facility. Having the stable set up this way allows Matthew and his team to have their finger on the pulse. I believe this is a massive positive for owners knowing that the horses trained by Matthew will be given every opportunity to perform to the best their ability every time they go to the races.
Matthew has plenty of training options when it comes to getting his horses prepared for race day. He has an undercover walker, a 1000m track at his property, the Cranbourne racetrack and beach is nearby and Matthew currently has plans in place to build a 1000m uphill incline sand track on the property next door. Matthew and the team are very welcoming of owners at their property and encourage owners to head down and check out their horses. They also have a bar at the property which the owners thoroughly enjoy visiting. Especially after a win, the beers always seem to taste better. Matthews partner Luana is a big part of the training operation, she keeps everything going behind the scenes, from invoicing, communicating with owners, website/social media updates and riding track work. Matthew and Luana are as genuine as you will find and are the perfect team.
Matthew has been training since 2015, in his short 5-year training career he has been successful. The most recent 2019/2020 season Matthew had a winning strike rate of 10% and place strike rate of 34%. Matthew is highly respected in the racing industry and is a great young trainer on an upward spiral. When his time is done in the racing industry, I genuinely believe he will be remembered as one of the greats.
